Stem Cell therapies for Chronic Pain in the Clinic

December 28, 2016Solomon KamsonNews, Regenerative Medicine

Dr. Kamson Speaks about Regenerative Medicine at the World Stem Cell Summit

The field of regenerative medicine continues to show great promise in helping the human body recover from a variety of health issues, including chronic knee pain, joint pain, back and spine pain, and sports injuries — just to mention a few.

At the core of regenerative medicine is the stem cell – a very special kind of cell that can morph into many other types of cells necessary for healthy human function.

“Stem cells are kind of a ‘building block’ cell with the ability to specialize into a variety of cell types needed for repair and recovery – nerve cells, muscle cells, bone and cartilage cells for instance,” explained Dr. Solomon Kamson, founder of The Spine Institute Northwest. “We’ve seen stem cells not just mask pain caused by damaged tissue, but actually repair the tissue and eliminate the pain.”

Kamson presented his latest research and clinical findings at the 2016 World Stem Cell Summit held in West Palm Beach Florida in early December. An invited presenter, Kamson sat on a discussion panel with an international cast of stem cell experts including Diego Correa, MD, MSC, PhD and Gaetano Scuderi, MD. The panel talked about their latest experiences with stem cell therapies in their clinics – all showing positive results.

Kamson employs a variety of restorative stem cell approaches including MatriStem A-Cell injection therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. In all of these procedures, the stem cells are injected directly to the site of the injury.

MatriStem A-Cell injection is used primarily for wound healing and uses adult stem cells to promote the growth of new healthy skin cells rather that scar tissue.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy also aids in healing wounds by bathing the wound site with a concentrated platelet-rich plasma. Platelets carry cytokines and naturally-occurring growth factors that help the body heal.

Known broadly as regenerative medicine, the field of stem cell research and application has been growing steadily for more than 30 years. The latest and most promising approach to stem cell therapy is the “induced pluripotent stem cell” or IPSC. These stems cells can be grown from the patient’s own skin cells, making them relatively easy to obtain and safely administered.

For a more in-depth look at stem cell therapy, see Dr. Kamson’s blog called “Get Your Life Back Quickly! Stem Cell Therapy for Chronic Pain.”

No need to live with on-going pain. Call Dr. Kamson today at (206) 496-0630 to see if any of these regenerative treatments are right for you!
